Tipply ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use the Tipply mobile application ("App").
By downloading, accessing, or using Tipply, you agree to the practices described in this policy. We encourage you to read this policy carefully before using the App.
Information Collection and Use
Tipply is a utility application that does not require registration, login, or any personal account. We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII), such as your name, email address, or phone number.
The information you enter into the App (bill amounts, tip percentages, and split details) is processed solely on your device to provide core functionality.
Camera & Photo Usage
Tipply offers an optional Receipt Scanner feature that uses your device's camera to capture an image of a receipt and extract the total amount using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.
The camera permission is requested only when you choose to use the scanning feature. You can revoke this permission at any time through your device settings.
Advertising and Third-Party Services
Tipply is provided as a free application. To support the ongoing development of the App, we may integrate third-party services as described below.
- Google ML Kit Text Recognition: Used on-device for Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when scanning receipts. This library operates entirely locally and does not transmit image data to Google servers.
- Google Play Services: The App uses standard Google Play Services, which may collect basic crash logs and diagnostic information for application stability purposes. This information is not used to track, profile, or identify individual users.
- Advertising Networks (Future): To support ongoing development, we may display advertisements through third-party ad networks (such as Google AdMob) in a future version. If integrated, these networks may collect non-personally identifiable information, such as your device's Advertising ID and IP address, to serve personalized ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your device settings.
The App requests the INTERNET permission to load ad content when advertising is enabled. We do not transmit any user-generated data, calculation history, or personal information over the network.
Local Storage & Data Retention
Tipply stores your calculation history, generated receipt images, and app preferences exclusively on your device's local storage. This data is never synchronized to the cloud.
The App requests the READ_MEDIA_IMAGES permission to allow you to load or save generated bill images from your device's photo library. This permission is used solely at your direction — the App does not access, upload, or share your photo library contents with any external service.
All locally stored data can be permanently removed by clearing the App's data through your device settings or by uninstalling the App.
Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
Please note the following regarding the use of Tipply:
- Accuracy of Calculations & OCR: The Receipt Scanner (OCR) and tip calculation features are provided for convenience only. Users are solely responsible for verifying the final amounts before making any payments. We accept no liability for any financial losses or disputes arising from calculation errors or OCR inaccuracies.
- Data Loss: Because all data is stored locally on your device, we are not responsible for any data loss resulting from device failure, App uninstallation, or operating system updates.
Children's Privacy
Tipply does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain European jurisdictions). The App is designed for a general audience. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us, and we will take immediate steps to delete it.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of Tipply constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
